How to order a Repeat Prescription

Prescriptions Information

We require 3 working days to process prescription requests. This is to allow for more efficiency and for increased safety in the issuing of medications.

All medication requests must be in written form. We do not accept telephone requests for medication. This can be done online via Systm Online or via our online form. You can also request medication by a letter, your prescription counterfoil (with required medications marked) or a prescription request form, giving the full name of the medication, the dosage and as much information as possible as well as your name, date of birth and contact details.

Urgent Medications

Currently 10% of prescriptions are being requested as “urgent”. This is creating a huge burden of extra work for reception and the doctors. It is unsafe and significantly increases the risk of medication error.

It is the responsibility of the patient to order their medications on time.

Only medications, where a delay in prescribing will cause the patient to become unwell, will be considered for issuing as urgent prescriptions.

The easiest way to order your medications is online via Systm Online

In order to improve the safety and efficiency of issuing prescriptions please note the following requirements:

  • Please try to use the tick boxes to order the medication you need.
  • If you are unable to tick the boxes and it states that it needs reviewing by a GP/Nurse before it can be requested, please book a medication review with a Doctor or Nurse which can either be on the phone or face to face.
  • If you need your medications sooner than this appointment, please tick ‘make custom request’ and use the medication request notes.
  • All medications must be ordered by NAME and the DOSE required.
These names should be the same as the medications on your repeat prescription.
  • Medications are usually issued in amounts of 28 or 56 days.
You will not be able to order medications until 14 days before your next prescription is due.
  • If you require medicines outside of this timeframe please tick ‘make custom request’ and use the medication request notes. Please note a reason must be given for why this medication is being ordered early.

Please allow three full working days for requests.

You may collect your prescription by:

  • You may give consent for a chemist of your choice to collect your prescription on your behalf. You can arrange this yourself with your personal pharmacist
  • Collecting from reception
  • Sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request
    We do not fax prescriptions.

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)

GPs are able to produce and transmit a prescription to a pharmacy you have nominated with no need to produce a paper prescription.

The EPS allows you to collect your medications from a pharmacy at a location convenient to you; it could be near your place of work for example.

If you wish to join this scheme, either:

  • Complete our online form
  • Complete a nomination form in the waiting room and post in the repeat prescription box
  • Tell the Receptionist in person or over the phone
  • Go to your preferred pharmacy and let them know. They will register your details and we will know that you have joined the EPS scheme

How can patients help reduce prescription waste?

Check your medication cupboard before ordering more, order prescriptions when you have 7 days of medications left and let us or your surgery know if you have stopped taking any of your medicines.
